Yuyuan - The Garden of Happiness

Amidst the modern structure of Shanghai lies a garden that withstood the season of change in Chinese culture. Yuyuan Garden (or Yu Garden) is a classical garden that is hundreds of years old. Although referred to as the Forbidden City, Yu yuan literally means Garden of Happiness. This 20,000 square meter garden is located at Anren Jie in the Old City of Shanghai beside the City God Temple. 

 How to get there:

The easiest way to get there is to take Subway Line 10 and get off at Yuyuan Station. Take Exit 1 and walk towards the garden. 

Bus numbers 11, 26, 64, 304, 736, 805, 920 and 930 will take you to Xinbeimen Station along Renmin Road. From here, walk along Anren Street to get to the garden.

Entrance fee is between CNY30-40 depending on the season.

What to see:

The garden is packed with pavilions, ponds, open galleries and restaurants. The six main scenic areas in the garden are Huijing Hall, Inner Garden., Sansui Hall, Wanhua Chamber and the Yuhua Hall. The garden may be toured in the following order:
